The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on communities and economies across the world. The scale of the economic and social impacts have, and continue to be, considerable.
In 2020, the Tasmanian Government developed a range of strategies to minimise these impacts on our social fabric and the economy and to ensure the Tasmanian community was well placed to meet the challenges and opportunities that-then were ahead.
One of the measures the Government implemented was the establishment of the Premier’s Economic and Social Recovery Advisory Council to provide advice to the Premier on strategies and initiatives to support the short to medium, and the longer term recovery from COVID-19.
Guided by its Terms of Reference, the Council work focussed on making recommendations on measures that could be implemented by Government, the community and the private sector to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 and recover from it.
The Council was comprised of individuals from across the Tasmanian business and community sectors - leveraging their experience, knowledge and resourcefulness of these community leaders.
The Council’s Interim Report was delivered in July 2020, and its Final Report in March 2021 (available on this website). With the completion of the Final Report, the Council was disbanded.
